SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government has said it would examine the demand for an independent inquiry to probe allegations of leakage of ‘radiation’ from a concrete tank containing radioactive remnants of a uranium mining at Nongbah Jynrin village in the state’s South West Khasi Hills district bordering Bangladesh.

“We will get the matter examined and after discussing with the forest and environment department and other agencies, we will take a call on how to move forward on this,” chief minister Conrad K Sangma said.

Recently, an environmental economist from London School of Economics, Bremley Wanbantei B Lyngdoh, who had visited Nongbah Jynrin, claimed that there was radiation leakage.
