Hard-right Ohio congressman attempts to rally Republicans despite entrenched opposition from lawmakers
Congressman Jim Jordan, Republicans’ embattled nominee for House Speaker, vowed to press forward with a third vote on Friday, despite entrenched opposition from lawmakers who say they are receiving death threats for blocking the far-right Donald Trump loyalist from claiming the gavel.
In a brief press conference on Friday morning, Jordan, a founder of the ultra-conservative House Freedom caucus who led the congressional effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election, sought to rally Republicans behind his candidacy as the tumultuous saga to elect a speaker dragged into an 18th day.
