The Australian rules footballer Barry Cable has been charged with historical sex offences against a young girl.

Western Australian police allege Cable sexually assaulted a girl aged between nine and 10 during 1967 and 1968.

The 80-year-old has been charged with five counts of indecent dealing with a girl aged under 13 and two counts of unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under 13.
