Twitter has been our go-to online place for years to express our climate voices, frustrations, and hopes about protecting our planet. However, with around 450 million monthly active users and 200 billion tweets posted this year, it’s easy to get lost in its timeline and to stay on top of the news. We’ve also had to keep an eye out for climate disinformation as the number of tweets mentioning the “climate scam” has reportedly surged.
Even so, there have been some Twitter gems. Here are some of our favourite climate tweets of 2022.
The tweets we can relate to:
I briefly forgot about climate-related doomscrolling and how livestreams and constant video updates from floods and hurricanes are normal now

Tell people what they want to hear and they’ll love you for it.
Tell them the truth, especially about #climate, and they’ll hate your guts.
Funny that.

October 4, 2022 Overwhelmed by the never-ending news of extreme weather events every time you scroll through your social media timeline? Feeling unheard when you try to advocate for the climate to the people around you or deeply struggling to keep the optimism alive while having your own anxiety about what’s next? Remember this, you are not alone. We are all in this together.
Strong reminders
There's no economic growth on a dead planet.
Pass it on.

Pakistan is paying a very heavy price for the way the world has delayed taking effective action about the climate crisis. An unusually heavy monsoon has combined with melting glaciers, with the result that a third of the entire country is now under water. Help urgently needed.

Imagine thinking that a climate crisis that will displace 700 million people in Africa in the near future isn't a big deal.
— Treesong (@treesong)
April 13, 2022 Dead planet? A ticking bomb? Sounds scary indeed, but these tweets are some bold reminders of why we should not give up fighting for our planet and why global leaders should not delay concrete actions. It’s also important to acknowledge that vulnerable nations like Pakistan, Bangladesh, and countries in Africa, which contribute the least to global carbon emissions, are already on the frontline of the climate crisis.
Us vs fossil fuels industry
Climate activists are sometimes depicted as dangerous radicals.
But the truly dangerous radicals are the countries that are increasing the production of fossil fuels.
Investing in new fossil fuels infrastructure is moral and economic madness.

Roses are red
Fossil fuels are destroying the planet
— Ecosia (@ecosia)

Instead of calling them “natural disasters” we should call them “fossil fuel disasters”
— Xiye Bastida (@xiyebastida)
September 9, 2022 Our planet is worth much more than fossil fuel profits. End of story.
A little bit of humour
GRANDPA: Hot date tonight?
CLIMATE CHANGE ACTIVIST: Yes thanks to you
— mo (@chuuew)
April 28, 2022 Imagine a little banter with the generations who could have done better for our planet. Yes, “thanks” to them.
Some words from the scientists
To all of you fighting for this Earth and for other people, against the rising tide of the careless rich, I love you with all of my heart.
— Peter Kalmus (@ClimateHuman)
November 18, 2022
If you feel uncomfortable about what is happening to Earth, do NOT assume other people have it covered. Please speak up and act up.

Climate Change:
It's real.
It's us.
It's serious – and becoming dangerous.
But there is hope: there are solutions.
The faster we cut our emissions and take carbon out of the atmosphere, the less suffering there will be.#EarthDay2022

April 22, 2022 It’s not easy to be the voice of reason in the midst of climate denialism flooding Twitter. We are thankful for climate experts who share climate news for us to stay informed and encourage us to speak up.
A glimpse of hope
The message is clear: The climate crisis is here, and we cannot lose hope! Around the world activists, communities, world leaders, and people like you are working together to take action and save our planet.
— Climate Reality (@ClimateReality)
April 22, 2022 After all, hope is what we need. Hope encourages us to keep doing better for our planet.
