Former PM and suspended police commissioner allegedly used power to stop investigation into ex university staff

Fijian prosecutors are set to charge former prime minister Frank Bainimarama with abuse of office, the country’s top prosecutor has said, a day after he resigned from the Pacific country’s parliament and weeks after he was suspended from the assembly for sedition.

The charges relate to a complaint to police made by the University of the South Pacific in July 2019 regarding the activities of former university staff members, the office of chief prosecutor Christopher Pryde said in a statement.
