Merrick Garland announces findings of Department of Justice investigation into department after Floyd’s death at the hands of officers

US attorney general Merrick Garland said that the Minneapolis police department used excessive force when its officers killed George Floyd in 2020 and has a “pattern and practice” of overly-aggressive policing and unlawful discrimination against Black Americans.

Garland on Friday announced the findings of the Department of Justice (DoJ) two-year investigation into the Minneapolis police department after George Floyd’s death at the hands of officers in the city. The city broke the US constitution in its policing practices, Garland said.
