The oil company filed a request for a seismic survey to examine oil deposits around the Willow project and, according to a now-withdrawn version of the application, to “identify potential future development areas.”

Earlier this month, environmental advocates in Alaska noticed that a new document had been quietly posted on the website of the federal agency that manages a huge swath of Arctic lands.
