On April 4 2018, the ENEA Board of Directors approved the final report with the final ranking of the nine candidate locations to host the Divertor Tokamak Test facility (DTT), the international center of excellence for nuclear fusion research. Based on the technical, economic and environmental requirements required, the highest score was assigned by the appropriate Evaluation Commission to the Frascati site (Rome)

The result of the assignment of the Frascati site is the conclusion of 6 months of battles to grab the localization by 9 Regions including Piedmont which had already started to claim the site in 2016 (as documented by this press review made by RNA here: http://www.nonukes.it/rna/RNAnews336.html)
The sad and curious thing is that in all this time ALL the environmental organizations have been silent. They kept quiet despite the fact that it was on newspapers, daily. Legambiente kept silent, the "greens" (which in Italy count no more than 1-2% of the electoral) kept silent, the local committees kept silent, Greenpeace-Italy kept silent, even those of the M5S (Five Star Movement) that, after the referendum in 2011, they capitalized on the electoral profits by becoming the first party with 33% of the votes.
In the official ENEA document, of which I gave you the pdf link above, the Frascati DTT project is already defined as "process to produce renewable, safe, inexhaustible energy" ... and "which sees Italy at the forefront of large international research programs ITER, Broader Approach and DEMO."

NUCLEAR FUSION, OK FIRST CONTRACTS FOR DTT FRASCATI

The Italian Center for Nuclear Fusion takes shape. The construction of the DTT - Divertor Tokamak Test at the ENEA Research Center in Frascati, a machine that will have to experiment advanced solutions for fusion energy, enters the operational phase. After the consolidation of the project in all its parts and, to carry out the work, the creation of the cooperative DTT - composed by ENEA, ENI and the CREATE Consortium - the first contracts were awarded. The project, worth approximately 600 million euros, will be carried out thanks to the financial contribution of the ministries of economic development and universities and research, the Lazio Region, ENEA and the other partners of the consortium, in addition to the 250 million euros loan from European Investment Bank in the context of EFSI funds (the so-called Juncker Plan).
After this, you need to know that the 5-Star Movement that made a big contribution to the referendum of 2011... In addition to having remained silent on the ongoing processes, it is consolidating the alliance with the Democratic Party and is also entering the majority of the government of the Lazio region, the same that location of the "green nuclear" site of Frascati (whose governor is Zingaretti of the democratic party and former leader of that same party). That's why they are so silent, now, about nuclear issues.
