Urgent! LD 1549 is a bill making its way through the Maine state legislature that would risk Maine's economy and environment by forcing the Maine Public Utilities Commission to annually consider proposals to build nuclear reactors in the state.
Nuclear power is dangerous, staggeringly expensive, environmentally disastrous, and far too slow to be a part of Maine's clean energy future. Newly proposed "small modular reactors" are merely hypothetical technologies that have no proven operational basis nor a working prototype to date. LD 1549 would be a massive waste of state resources that would derail real efforts to create a clean energy future for Maine.
