LIVE: Extinction Rebellion infiltrate the National Conservatism Conference

1 year ago 83

๐Ÿ‘ฅ XR entered and disrupted the National Conservatism Conference in London, interrupting speakers and highlighting increasingly dangerous rhetoric from senior political figures. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Peaceful protesters worked inside and outside the conference at the Emmanuel Centre in Westminster, to appeal directly to conference attendees and the public on the warning signs of fascism. ๐Ÿ’ฌ The conference promotes the principles of national conservatism, which shows strong similarities with fascist ideals. Especially the dominant nationalist agenda. ๐ŸŽค Speakers include high-profile, right-wing members of the Government, including the Home Secretary Suella Braverman, and Michael Gove, Jacob Rees-Mogg and Lee Anderson. ๐Ÿšจ National conservatism sees the courts and police as the means of suppressing peaceful protest and criminalising asylum seekers and trade unionists. ๐Ÿ” Following the implementation of the controversial Public Order Act ahead of the King's coronation, there are concerns of increasingly fascist ideals being adopted by senior members of the Conservative Party. Even the UN has criticised the new law as "incompatible with the UKโ€™s international human rights obligations regarding peopleโ€™s rights to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association." In the build-up to the conference, some news outlets have highlighted its significance and how it could influence the future of Conservative Party leadership and, in turn, UK politics. ๐ŸŒŽ Previous attendees of the conference include political figures on the far-right, including: Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban; Republican Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis; Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni; with the final keynote speech previously given by Kevin Roberts, President of The Heritage Foundation - a stalwart of the US radical right. #ExtinctionRebellion #NationalConservatismConference #ProtectDemocracy #HumanRights #PeacefulProtest
