Armed officers advised people to stay indoors and said there were no injuries and no terrorist involvement
Armed police were hunting a gunman after shots were fired at a Liverpool cinema and another business.
Merseyside police said that at about 8.50pm on Wednesday they received reports shots had been fired in Showcase Cinemas on East Lancashire Road in the Croxteth area.
