First Nations locals describe their ‘deep sadness’ that Maranoa, held by the Nationals leader, recorded the highest no vote in Australia

Indigenous elders and leaders have expressed disappointment and grief after regional Queensland recorded the most definitive rejection of the referendum to enshrine an Indigenous voice to parliament in the constitution.

In the vast electorate of Maranoa, held by the Nationals leader, David Littleproud, less than 15% of voters wrote yes on their ballots – the lowest yes vote in the country.
