Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was hospitalized late Wednesday after a fall, according to a spokesperson for the senator.
David Popp, the Kentucky Republican's communications director, said in a statement: “This evening, Leader McConnell tripped at a local hotel during a private dinner. He has been admitted to the hospital where he is receiving treatment.”
No further word on his condition was immediately available.
McConnell, who turned 81 on Feb. 20, is the longest-serving Senate leader in American history.
In August 2019, McConnell tripped on a patio at his home in Kentucky and fractured his shoulder. He worked from home for a time after that.
