More Than Half of Yemen’s Population Doesn’t Have Enough Access to Food

Yemen’s nine-year civil war has resulted in extreme levels of hunger and poverty among the population—in addition to grave human rights violations that have fallen especially hard on women, children, and religious minorities. While prospects for peace exist, Yemeni civil society groups have criticized the existing peace talks between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement as excluding civilians. Civil society and victims’ associations are uniting to bring about peace and justice through coalition building, advocacy, and dialogue, including publishing “The Yemen Declaration for Justice and Reconciliation.” To end the violence, hunger, and poverty, Yemen needs a just and sustainable peace that puts victims and survivors at the center.
