Norris Henderson: The Paul Revere of Voting Rights

1 year ago 75

You may not know the name Norris Henderson, but you should. Norris began organizing for the rights of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people while he himself was serving a prison sentence in Louisiana. From there, he built a powerful movement that ultimately restored the right to vote for people who were incarcerated—a model that has been replicated across the United States. At the core of Norris’s philosophy is the belief that “once people become civically engaged, everything changes.” By fighting for the rights of people harmed by the criminal justice system, Norris is showing that through collective and steady action we can change our communities and our country. Norris Henderson was a 2005 Soros Justice Fellow and is the co-founder of @voiceoftheexperienced. #OpenSociety #SorosJusticeFellows #CriminalJustice #FelonDisenfranchisement #VotingRights
