Political leaders must pull back from the brink

The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) strongly condemns the decisions of US President Biden and British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, to allow Ukraine to use their long-range missiles to strike targets inside Russia. Russia has now lowered its threshold for nuclear use, precisely to respond to such attacks by the US-made Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) and Britain’s Storm Shadow missiles. It is very concerning that Russia has retaliated by launching a hypersonic ballistic missile into Southern Ukraine. 

This is an incredibly dangerous situation which risks drawing nuclear-armed NATO into an all-out confrontation with Russia, increasing the likelihood of catastrophic nuclear use.

We call on all political leaders to pull back from the nuclear brink.  The US and Britain need to withdraw their long-range missiles from Ukraine and use their political influence to secure immediate peace talks.
