On Saturday 2 November, activists across Britain gathered to protest the return of US nuclear weapons to RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk.
Outside the base, protesters were joined by Melissa Parke, Executive Director of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, who spoke about the dangers of NATO nuclear sharing and nuclear escalation in Europe. Other speakers included Baroness Jenny Jones, as well as representatives from MedAct, Campaign Against Arms Trade, Nukewatch, Norwich CND, and the Lakenheath Alliance for Peace.
A sister demonstration was also held by Scottish CND outside the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine base at Faslane, linking the dangers that both US and British nuclear weapons pose to this country.
Below is a gallery of images from the day, which included a creative action where pro-nuclear US politicians faced off with peace protesters who ensured Lakenheath remains a nuclear free zone.
We’d like to thank everyone who took part in what was the fourth national mobilsation at Lakenheath since 2022. Please check out our events page for details about monthly vigils at the base, organised by the Lakenheath Alliance for Peace. We’ll be back for a wider mobilisation in April 2025!
