Russia is forcibly separating Ukrainian children from their families and caregivers. Over 19,000 children have been sent to so-called “reeducation” camps, to live with Russian families, or even to fight in the war against their home country. This deprives Ukraine of an entire generation of youth, says Kateryna Rashevska of the Regional Center for Human Rights, an Open Society grantee. Alongside other partners in Ukraine, the Center is leading efforts to track down Ukrainian children in Russia and return them home to their families. It’s also working to bring the perpetrators to justice. Recently, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Children’s Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova for the alleged forcible deportation of Ukrainian children. More support is needed to ensure these children can return home and can reintegrate after the horrors inflicted on them. #OpenSociety #Ukraine #Russia #ChildrensRights #Shorts
