Single parents will now receive extra payments until their child turns 14, as the government moves to wind back a controversial Gillard-era move which pushed parents onto lower welfare rates.
The children’s age cut-off for the Parenting Payment (Single) payment will be boosted from its current 8 years, giving the cohort – overwhelmingly single mothers – an extra $176.90 per fortnight.
