Spanish police recover Francis Bacon painting worth €5m

Two people arrested over theft of José Capelo portraits in Madrid in 2015 – one of which is still missing

Spanish police have recovered a €5m (£4.3m) painting by the late British artist Francis Bacon that was stolen with four other of his works in 2015.

The work is one of five portraits by Bacon of the Spanish banker José Capelo, together worth more than €25m, which were stolen from Capelo’s Madrid home.
