Downing Street defends PM, saying extra £100m was signed off by former home secretary Suella Braverman
Rishi Sunak did not mislead MPs when he said there were no additional costs to the Rwanda deportation deal, as £100m in extra funding for the country was part of a parallel economic development scheme, Downing Street has argued.
There has been renewed focus on the cost of the controversial scheme after the Home Office’s top civil servant revealed in a letter that the UK had given Rwanda a further £100m, on top of the already-known £140m cost, with a further payment of £50m expected next year.
