Thousands of nurses in New York went on strike Monday in an effort to demand better pay, working conditions, and address staffing needs. Amid the global pandemic, nurses across the country were in high demand, with health care workers struggling with exhaustion and sickness themselves. States with the highest COVID-19 infection and hospitalization rates were seeing more resignations than any others, Daily Kos reported. This was not only due to being overworked, but also because of a lack of support and financial compensation, in addition to a much higher risk of contracting COVID.
The movement to better care for health care workers has made waves across the country, with more than 7,000 nurses at two hospitals in New York City now going on strike.
