Planes unable to land to evacuate 700 people in Borroloola as torrential rain floods roads and winds of up to 200km/h forecast

Locals are struggling to flee Tropical Cyclone Megan as it hits the Northern Territory coastline, with dangerous weather preventing evacuation aircraft from landing.

The storm system is now only 100km away from the remote fishing town Borroloola, where residents were waiting for Australian defence force planes to fly them out of town on Monday afternoon.
