US south faces possible tornadoes as north braces for winter blast and rain

Tornado warnings issued in Alabama and Louisiana as midwest prepares for snow and up to 3in rain expected along east coast

Millions in the US are facing extreme weather this week as forecasters warn of possible tornadoes in the south and a winter blast continuing in the north.

At least three tornadoes were spotted in north-east Florida, the National Weather Service reported. Residents in Panama City Beach, Florida, about two hours outside the state capital of Tallahassee, reported property damage after a tornado reportedly touched down in the area.
