Using the Financial System to Tackle the Climate Crisis | Extinction Rebellion UK

Keval Bharadia’s talk was followed by comments from panellists Daisy Pearson and Tyrone Scott and a Q&A with the audience, facilitated by Rob Callender. Daisy Pearson is Campaigns and Activism Officer, Global Justice Now. Tyrone Scott is Senior Movement Building and Activism Officer, War on Want. Keval Bharadia is a political economist and activist with a 15-year career at the London Stock Exchange. Rob Callender is from Extinction Rebellion. Each day, around £12.6 trillion pounds worth of trading goes through the global financial and commodity markets. Just a 1% tax on this trading would raise £12.6 billion each day. This is enough to end poverty, hunger and destitution overnight. It is enough to build a loss and damage fund, finance a just transition and wipe out global south debts in a week.
