Joyce to step down in November after 15 years at the helm, when he will be replaced by the current chief financial officer

Qantas’s chief financial officer, Vanessa Hudson, will take over as the airline’s chief executive in November, putting an end to years of speculation as to who would succeed longtime head Alan Joyce.

Hudson’s promotion was announced on Tuesday morning, following what the company described as a “rigorous selection process”. Chairman Richard Goyder said the appointment allows for a “smooth transition” from Joyce.
