A House of Lords vetting body is facing pressure to reject a proposed peerage for Liz Truss’s former chief of staff over critical findings relating to the funding of one of his pro-Brexit campaigns.
The reported nomination of Matthew Elliott, who oversaw the former prime minister’s No 10 operations during her ill-fated seven-week administration, has provoked multiple complaints to the Lords appointments commission.
