Voice to parliament campaigners from the Northern Territory say the proposed Indigenous consultation body would have helped mitigate the recent social and crime problems in Alice Springs, claiming health and education systems had “failed” Aboriginal people.

“What’s happening today in the territory, that’s a result of the last 15 years of federal government policies not working,” said Barb Shaw, an Indigenous woman from Alice Springs and a signatory to the Uluru statement from the heart.
