Seismic activity intensified overnight near town of Grindavik, in country’s fifth volcanic eruption in two years
A volcano has erupted north of the south-western Icelandic town of Grindavik near the site of a previous eruption in December, the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO) said.
Seismic activity had intensified overnight and residents of Grindavik were evacuated at about 3am (0300 GMT) on Sunday, the Icelandic public broadcaster RUV reported.
