Fast Track Bill/War on Nature

Pre breakfast Action. We have planned a fun action with frogs. Remember Minister Shane Jones saying that if a blind frog was in the way of progress then it is goodbye Freddie! This sort of captures the whole approach of the Luxon Government to our environment. Read this updated article by Greenpeace Director Russel Norman https://www.greenpeace.org/aotearoa/story/luxons-fast-track-war-on-nature/

The Fast Track Bill goes back to Parliament for the second reading. Current advice is that it will be on Friday October 18th. But we are alert that it may be earlier in the week.

When the Bill goes back to Parliament there will be actions throughout the country by various concerned/threatened groups. To join our pre breakfast action text Caril on 0211883933. There are a variety of roles including stencilling and photography.

Bernard Hickey on Entrust Voting

Last time the Entrust board was elected with less than 10% of the vote. The ‘Better’ team want to shake up Entrust to focus on making power more affordable, possibly through Auckland’s lines company Vector or others using increasingly cheap solar powers and batteries on the roofs of Auckland’s factories, warehouses and homes.

Use your voting power for the society you want. For more information see here: https://thekaka.substack.com/p/kaka-project-what-could-a-revamped

Important Webinar:

COMMUNITY RESILIENCE: CLIMATE ADAPTATION, EARTHQUAKES, BASIC NEEDS – THEY’RE ALL CONNECTED – BUT WE’RE NOT
Jack Santa Barbara
Wednesday October 16th 7-8.30

This webinar will discuss the uncertain future we face with multiple risks increasing steadily. Governments are failing to protect us, placing responsibility onto local communities. Community resilience building to ensure everyone’s universal basic needs are met is a critical aspect of a secure future. There are many examples of communities beginning this process, but more is urgently needed.

Is your community ready? Be part of the discussion about how to build community resilience where you live.

The Fourth Fundamental Principle of Extinction Rebellion Aotearoa:

He uri tātou me ngā toiora katoa, ‘He muka nā te taura here a Ranginui rāua ko Papatūānuku.’ Ko tā tātou mahi he tieki i ngā tāonga me te mauriora i whakatōkia ai ki a Papatūānuku.

We are kin with all of life, ‘a strand in the enveloping life thread of Ranginui and Papatūānuku.’ Our responsibility is to tend and guard the riches and the vital ‘mauri’ that was implanted on Papatūānuku.
